There are quite a few patriotic holidays or national days of recognition to celebrate throughout the year in the United States. Here are some I've found, in random order:

  • Independence Day;
  • Memorial Day;
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day;
  • Veterans Day;
  • Flag Day;
  • Washington's Birthday;
  • Constitution Day;
  • Election Day;
  • Presidents' Day.
  • Patriot Day;
  • Labor Day;

Wow! Quite a few, huh? So if you are thinking of making a little treat to celebrate a Patriotic occasion, don't worry! In this post, I'll share with you a delicious Jello recipe that is extremely easy to make and super cute.

Red, White, and Blue Jello Cups

We have to have red, white, and blue in a patriotic dessert, right? And what's better than Jello to show those bright colors? I mean... Jello has vivid colors, and bright flavors, and it's super easy to make. Also, most kids love it, and even adults (including me).

But, to spruce things up, I decided to make a cream to go with it. Actually, this is the way I remember seeing my mom eating her gelatin, with a delicious cream that is slightly sweet and brings a delicious mouthfeel experience.

How to make it

The steps to make these Jello cups are very simple. All you have to do is:

  • Prepare the Jello according to the instructions in the box. I used one Strawberry flavor and one berry blue flavor (6oz /170g each).
  • Wait until it's completely set, and then cut it into squares with a sharp knife;
  • Blend heavy cream with sweetened condensed milk inside a small jar;
  • Inside the mini cups, make layers of Jell-O squares and the creamy mixture until you reach the top;
  • Decorate it how you'd like. The ones in the photos have some whipped cream and sprinkles on top.

Tips

Cutting the squares - You can cut the squares according to the size of your cups. Use a utility knife and run it through the Jell-O, vertically and horizontally, to create the squares.

Removing the squares - Remove them delicately so they won't break. You can use a teaspoon, the tip of a butter knife, or even a spatula if you want to lift more than one at a time.

Building up the cups - I used an 8oz (237ml) cup to create my dessert, but you can use smaller ones if you prefer. I placed 4 small gelatin squares on the bottom of the cup, alternating the colors and pressing them against the wall to make them visible from the outside. Then I poured a little bit of the cream (about 1.5 tablespoons) and continued this process until there was no more space in the cup.

Making the cream - There's no secret to making the cream. I used 250ml of heavy cream and 150ml of sweetened condensed milk, but you can change the proportions according to your taste. If you like it barely sweet, use more heavy cream and less condensed milk. If you like it sweeter, do the opposite.

Decoration - You can decorate it the way you like. I think that whipped cream goes really well with gelatin, so I decided to top the cups with some whipped cream and shaped red, white, and blue sprinkles.

    You didn’t explain what to do with the heavy whipping cream and sweetened condensed milk! Do I mix them together?

      Hi Angie!
      Yes, you just mix the two ingredients together. I explained it in the text throughout the post, but I forgot to add this step to the recipe card.
      Thank you so much for pointing that out! I already fixed the card.
